Education:

  • Riga Stradiņš University, bachelor’s degree in nutrition.

  • Interuniversity master’s program in nutrition science.

A nutritionist is a highly qualified medical practitioner with higher education in healthcare. The main tasks of a nutritionist includes using preventive measures to promote health, in order to avoid potential health problems, and implementing an individual diet customised to the patient, as every person is unique and needs an individual to their nutrition.

Scope of activities:

An individual nutrition program/diet is developed in the following cases:

  • excess or insufficient weight;

  • type I and type II diabetes;

  • coronary heart disease, incl. high cholesterol;

  • pregnancy;

  • food intolerance and food allergies;

  • vegetarianism;

  • diseases of the stomach, pancreas, oesophagus, liver, kidneys;

  • diarrhoea, constipation;

  • the patient is an athlete;

  • the patient is interested in learning about balanced nutrition, incl. they would like to shop together in a store;

  • development of an individual menu for a set period;

    any other nutrition issues.

Nutrition recommendations are provided in a simple, understandable manner, taking into account the person’s work and leisure pattern, the foods they like and dislike, other habits, as well as their financial and practical means!

During the first consultation the specialist performs:

  • health assessment in the form of a questionnaire, interview;

  • determination of medical history;

  • analysis of current eating habits;

  • assessment of weight fluctuations, previous attempts to affect weight;

  • measurements: height, weight, body mass index, waist, and hip circumference;

  • bioimpedance analysis of body composition (total body fat, visceral fat and water content in the body, muscle mass, bone mineral weight, age of basal metabolism);

  • interpretation of genetic testing data and prescription of dietary adjustments.
